According to the BBC, Manchester City has reached an agreement to secure the services of Jeremy Doku, a promising Belgium winger, in a noteworthy deal valued at £55.4 million from Rennes. The 21-year-old prodigy, nicknamed “The Belgian Flash” has etched his mark on the football landscape, amassing an impressive track record of 12 goals across 92 appearances for Rennes in Ligue 1.
Doku’s impending transfer is poised to elevate him to the status of Manchester City’s third marquee acquisition during this summer transfer window. This follows the club’s successful signings of Mateo Kovacic, a skilled midfielder, from Chelsea for a sum of £25 million, and Josko Gvardiol, a highly-rated prospect, from RB Leipzig for a substantial £77 million.
As the transfer gears move into motion, Doku was slated to embark on a journey to Manchester on Tuesday, where he would undergo a comprehensive medical examination prior to the finalization of his transfer for a notable 65 million euros. This notable addition to Manchester City’s roster has ignited a whirlwind of interest from other prominent football clubs. West Ham, Tottenham, and Chelsea have all been rumored to be vying for the opportunity to secure Doku’s talents within their ranks.
The dynamic transfer landscape has also seen notable departures from Manchester City’s ranks. The departure of Riyad Mahrez, a prolific winger, has led him to embark on a new chapter in his career, plying his trade in the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli. Furthermore, the former team captain Ilkay Gundogan has ventured into new horizons as well, finding his new home at Barcelona.
Simultaneously, Manchester City has been actively engaging with offers from various quarters. Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte is on the cusp of making a transition to Al-Nassr, with the club having accepted their bid. Additionally, Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo is inching closer to a transfer to Barcelona, signifying the dynamic and transformative nature of the current transfer window.
